SUDAN

Sudan is a country in sub-Saharan Africa that continues to be plagued by civil unrest. Maternal deaths are exacerbated by war and increase during armed conflicts where the maternal mortality ratio (MMR) is positively associated with conflict.

SOUTH SUDAN

The maternal mortality rate in South Sudan is among the highest in the world, with women facing significant risks during pregnancy and childbirth. Emergency obstetric services are limited, with less than 50% of health facilities functional and service delivery mostly provided by international organizations.
